Imperial Stretch Ceilings

Welcome to the World of Stretch Ceiling Systems

Stretch ceilings offer a modern and versatile alternative to traditional ceiling systems, providing numerous advantages and opportunities for creative expression. Let’s delve into the world of stretch ceilings to discover how they can elevate your space.

The system is a form of suspended ceiling comprising of two parts; a PVC stretch membrane, and a PVC or aluminium track. The stretch ceiling panel is bespoke made, slightly smaller than the room/opening size, and is then heated using propane space heaters and stretched into the perimeter track. The installation process is very quick with minimal site mess and wastage.

Stretch ceilings have been available for over 50 years across Europe, but are less well known in the UK market. Commonly referred to as a 'Barrisol' ceiling (click here for more information), they are a more flexible, cleaner, highly sustainable, and eco-friendly alternative to plasterboard or tile ceiling systems, and are available in a huge range of finishes.

Our ceilings are manufactured using only the highest quality fire-rated materials, and come with a 10-year guarantee. Stretch Ceiling FAQs

What is the expected lifetime for a stretch ceiling?

We offer a 10 year guarantee on our stretch ceilings, but many installs last over 20 years!

Can we get access above the stretch ceiling once it has been installed?

Yes! The stretch ceiling can be unclipped to give access above and then reinstalled using specialist tools once the works above are complete.

Can stretch ceilings be repaired?

It depends on the location of any damage within the ceiling panel. If it is near to the edge, the ceiling can often be re-harpooned and re-stretched; if not, a replacement will be required.

Why are stretch ceilings recommended for swimming pools?

Stretch ceilings are often specified for pool environments as they act as a vapour barrier but also because they are low maintenance, will not require redecoration, and they look fantastic!

Can I have downlights and speakers within my stretch ceiling?

Absolutely! We can create apertures in stretch ceilings to allow for downlights, speakers, grills, smoke heads, etc. They just need to be self-supported. Pretty much anything that you can have in a plasterboard ceiling, you can also have in a stretch ceiling.

What is the typical fixing method for a stretch ceiling?

Most stretch ceilings will have either a sideward or upwards fixing profile at the perimeter and possibly a joining profile for larger panels to be connected. The profiles will require a rigid and continuous structure to fix into. Visit our technical page for example fixing details.

Are stretch ceilings fire resistant?

Our stretch ceiling material is fire rated to BS1D0. This means that in the event of a fire, the material will not drip or contribute to the spread of flame. You can find more information on our technical page.

What is the typical installation procedure?

Once the fixing profiles are in place, the pre-made stretch ceiling is heated using propane space heaters (up to 38ºC), stretched, and clipped into the perimeter profiles using specialist fitting tools.
