F.A.Q.

A stretch ceiling is a suspended ceiling system consisting of two basic components – a perimeter track and lightweight PVC fabric membrane which stretches and clips into the track. In addition to ceilings the system can be used on walls, as a light diffuser, floating panels, exhibitions and creative shapes.

Stretch ceilings have a very long shelf life, as long as they don’t get damaged. Here at Imperial, we guarantee 10 years as a minimum, but there have been stretch ceilings that managed to power through for over twenty years!

Yes! The stretch ceiling can be unclipped to give access above and then reinstalled using specialist tools once the works above are complete.

It depends on the location of any damage within the ceiling panel. If it is near to the edge, the ceiling can often be re-harpooned and re-stretched; if not, a replacement will be required.

Absolutely! We can create apertures in stretch ceilings to allow for downlights, speakers, grills, smoke heads, etc. They just need to be self-supported. Pretty much anything that you can have in a plasterboard ceiling, you can also have in a stretch ceiling.

Most stretch ceilings will have either a sideward or upwards fixing profile at the perimeter and possibly a joining profile for larger panels to be connected. The profiles will require a rigid and continuous structure to fix into. Visit our technical page for example fixing details.

Our stretch ceiling material is fire rated to BS1D0. This means that in the event of a fire, the material will not drip or contribute to the spread of flame. You can find more information on our technical page.

Once the fixing profiles are in place, the pre-made stretch ceiling is heated using propane space heaters (up to 38ºC), stretched, and clipped into the perimeter profiles using specialist fitting tools.

There are several factors that impact the cost of stretch ceiling installation including size, complexity of design, different shapes, required cut-outs, and especially if lighting is involved. It’s always best to contact us for a free estimate.

A tensioned translucent membrane fitted over LED lighting, creating an evenly lit ceiling surface with no visible fixtures. Imperial's version, StretchLume, is engineered specifically for this LED layout, membrane spec, and fixing profile are optimised together rather than just diffusing light through a basic panel.

No, the system is designed for uniform, shadow-free illumination across the whole surface, whether it's a 2m² display niche or a 50m² lobby ceiling.

Three: flush-mounted (within a plasterboard opening, for a minimalist flush finish), surface-mounted (best for limited-depth or exposed slab situations), and suspended/floating (creates architectural "light raft" zones in open-plan spaces).

Imperial uses high-quality 24V LEDs and power supplies covered by a 5-year guarantee. Maintenance requirements are minimal once installed.

Yes, LED options range from single-colour white through to full RGBW colour-change, paired with compatible lighting controls.

Yes. You can go from a single colour white right through to full RGBW colour change, and it all pairs with lighting controls so you can manage it easily.

It's popular in hospitality and leisure (spas, hotel lobbies, restaurants), retail and brand spaces, healthcare and wellness settings where adjustable white light helps create a calming feel, commercial offices, and it's a particular favourite for car showrooms and photo studios.

Yes, StretchLume is on NBS Source, and there's an Architect Pack with technical drawings and LED layout guidance, plus a product data sheet, both available to download.

Yes, Imperial handles the whole thing themselves, from the LED layout design right through to fitting and tensioning the membrane on site.
